MACHESNEY PARK - Ashford Mwenda Manyara, 59, passed away on Thursday August 23, 2018. Mwenda was born December 24, 1958, in Meru, Kenya. He was the son of Justus Manyara and the late Julia Kajuju Manyara. Ashford loved engineering and though he started his career as a banker, he transitioned and ended it as an engineer. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading books and repairing vintage machines & tools.
Ashford is survived by his wife & longtime partner Rosemary Kinanu Mugambi of Cambridge, MA; his eldest son, Benjamin Gitonga Manyara and his wife Nicole Malcolm-Manyara of Stamford, CT; his twins, daughter, Brenda Nkatha Manyara and son, Brian Thuranira Manyara of Cambridge, MA; and his only granddaughter Malia Kinya Manyara of Stamford, CT. He is also survived by his father Justus Manyara (Kenya); his 3 brothers, Charles Kaimenyi Manyara (USA), Franklin Mbaabu Manyara (Kenya) & Ernest Mwiti Manyara (Kenya) and their wives; 10 nieces, 10 nephews, and 2 great-nephews.
Celebration of Life Memorial held Saturday September 22, 2018 at 5:00 pm at Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 3:00 pm until the time of services at 5:00 pm. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
