Barbara Jean Oakley

ROCKFORD – Barbara Jean Oakley, age 88, of Rockford passed away peacefully Monday September 2, 2024. Born in Rockford on December 17, 1935 to Donald W. & DeLoris Mary Sweeney (Nystrom). Barbara retired after many years of service from the US Post Office, then worked as an Optician for several years. She loved cooking, scrap booking, puzzles, adult coloring books and traveling with family and friends on yearly Florida vacations. Most of all she loved spending time with her family; especially her grand & great grandchildren, her true pride and joy! Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend; she will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her daughters, Gayle (Rick) Edge, Sherry Bozarth and Karen Oakley; daughter-in-law, Terri Bozarth; son-in-law, Matthew Vincent; grandchildren, Kurtis (Belinda), Samantha (Daniel), Seth, Sarah (Mike), Beth (Shaun), Katie (Scotty), Jeremiah, Anthony (Megan) and Trevor-James; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, David (Judy) Cross, Carol (William) Guthrie and Penny (late James) Moody; several nieces & nephews; beloved caregiver, Sue; and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Loren Oakley; daughter, Jan Vincent; son, Stephen Bozarth; siblings, Ed, Kathy, Darrell, Pam and Bill; infant great grandson, Evan; and her parents.

Funeral Services held Friday September 6, 2024 at 11:30 AM at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:30 AM. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Memorials to the family.
