David Paul Furman, 77, of Rockford, IL, passed away on April 20, 2023, at home with family. Born June 18, 1945, in Chicago. He was the son of Larry L. Furman and Ruth M. (Helmick) Higgs.
David is a highly decorated Vietnam Army Veteran; who served two terms. He retired a proud Teamster's member of A&B Freight, loved helping the guys at Maggio's, and took great enjoyment working on projects in his shop. He was a kind, generous, man with strong family values. He loved his family and was committed to making sure each one knew he valued and supported them to their highest achievements. He always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. In life, he loved his yard, hummingbirds, flowers, cars, cooking for family and friends; and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Corinne; brother, Richard Furman; brother-in-law Price Cofield; sister, Linda Carol Smith; daughter, Tiffany Cole; and, granddaughter, Mercedes Cole.
Survivors include his sisters; Julie Cofield, Barbara (George) Varner, Carol Smith, and Pamela Smith; brother, Donald Smith; daughters, Tina Battles, Carie (Jason) Furman-Herman, and Jennifer Furman; son, Cody Furman; several beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and multiple members of the step-family.
A formal remembrance service to celebrate and honor his life with family and friends will be on Friday June 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, in Rockford, followed by a celebration of life gathering at the SMSF Club. To his honor, he will be officially laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
