Dixie Lee Garkey (Drummer)

MACHESNEY PARK – Dixie Lee Garkey (Drummer), age 82, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Thursday August 30, 2018. Born in Rockford on June 24, 1936 to Dale & Anna Mae Crawford (Tilton). She loved playing Bingo, crocheting and her Westerns starring John Wayne. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend; she will remain in our hearts forever.


She is survived by her children, Rachel (Tim) Manring, Butch (Diana) Garkey and Allen (Sandra) Garkey; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister, Joann (Barry) Webster; numerous nieces & nephews; and beloved dog, Matie. She is predeceased by her husband, Marlin Garkey Sr.; sister, Paulette Wilson; and brother, Donald (Jean) Crawford.


Celebration of Life Memorial held Tuesday September 4, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 5:00 pm until the time of services at 7:00 pm. Cremation rites accorded. Inurnment at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Friday September 7, 2018 at 12 noon. Memorials to the family.
