Earnest D. Bogardus

BELVIDERE – Earnest D. Bogardus, age 71, of Belvidere passed away peacefully Thursday December 6, 2018. Born in Belvidere on October 28, 1947 to Leslie Earnest & Alberta Eloise Bogardus (Migner). A hard-worker, he operated a forklift for many years. Earnest never stopped working and found great joy in teaching his sons the trades. He enjoyed time on the farm, training horses and heavy equipment; especially trains and semi-trucks. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, he will remain in our hearts forever.


He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Kay Bogardus (Heckler); children, Jim (Sherry) Bogardus Sr. and Steve (Anne) Bogardus; daughter-in-law, Christina Bogardus; grandchildren, Jimmy Jr. (Heather), Arikah, Rebecca, Marranda, Maxwell, Trent, Mariah, Scarlet and Paul; great grandaughter, Rhylee; sister, Hazel, (late Ed) Miller; numerous nieces & nephews; dear friends, Mike & Betty Moerke; and beloved dogs, Tater and Chewy. He is predeceased by his son, Joseph D. Bogardus; parents; and daughter-in-law, Nikki.


Funeral Services held Monday December 10, 2018 at 5:00 PM at Highland Garden of Memories - Cemetery Chapel, 9800 IL Route 76, Belvidere, Illinois, with visitation from 3:00 PM until the time of services at 5:00 PM. Interment held graveside Wednesday December 12, 2018 at 11:30 AM. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
