Edie Mae Horton

ROCKFORD – Edie "Bam Bam" Mae Horton, age 53, of Rockford passed away peacefully on Thursday May 10, 2018. Born in Rockford on June 30, 1964 to CL Day & Bessie Sams. Edie was a proud member of The Blackhawk Elks Lodge #921, Associate Pride of Rockford 889, The American Legion Jefferson-Horton Auxiliary #340 and served as Sergeant At Arms. She was a past member of the Queen Esther Chapter 16 Eastern Star . Beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and dear friend; she will remain in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her daughter, Akemi Crowley; siblings, Bobbie Jackson of Texas, Lori Phillips of Rockford, Kimberley Willis of Jackson TN., Rachael Day of Union MS., James Gilmore of Bearden AR., Rev. John Sams and Lorenzo Sams of Rockford; special friends, Mattie Keyes and Vadelia "Peaches" Brown; and a host of nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy Sams and sister, Delores Sams-Leavy.

Funeral services held Saturday May 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Rockford Community Church, 6909 Auburn St ., with visitation from 11:30 AM until the time of services at 1:00 PM. Cremation rites accorded. Memorials to the family
