Gary Neil Florentz

ROCKFORD - Gary Neil "Jingles" Florentz, age 78, of Rockford passed away peacefully Monday April 26, 2021 of complications due to cancer. B orn in Norfolk, NE on August 10, 1942 to Glen & Lorraine Florentz (Clocker). He graduated in 1960 from Milaca High School in Minnesota and attended one year of engineering school at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.  Following school Gary helped build bridges for the Minnesota DOT for several years.  He found his calling once he became manager of Shakey's Pizza in Grand Forks, ND. Over the next 30 years, he managed several restaurants in South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Alabama, Georgia and Illinois.  Although he lived in a number of different places, he always felt most at home in western South Dakota where he could look for fossils, lick rocks (rockhounding) and hunt deer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Juanita "Tudy" Florentz (Leopold); children & step-children, Terry, Kimberly, Cynthia, Christopher, Laurie, Stephen; numerous grandchildren; sister, Glenda Day; and many loving friends & family that will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents; brother, LaMonte Florentz; and stepson, Wes .

Per Gary's wishes there will be no viewing or formal service. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
