ROCKFORD – George Theodore Kopcio, age 73, of Rockford passed away peacefully Sunday January 23, 2022. George was visited and comforted by his children and friends while at St. Anne Place in Rockford. Born in London, England on March 10, 1948 to Joseph & Celina Kopcio (Lukaszewska). A veteran of the US Army, George served in the 6th Battalion, 37th Artillery, 2nd Infantry Division during Vietnam. After his service he returned to Rockford where he worked at CamCar as a machine operator and married the love of his life Bonnie. George faced health challenges which forced him to become permanently disabled. Despite his disability, he cultivated many passions which included Harley-Davidson motorcycles, coin collecting, music, and hosting gatherings with friends and family. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. George was a beloved father, son, grandfather, brother and dear friend to many that will remain forever in our hearts.
He is survived by children, Adam (Pamela) Kopcio and Jessica (David) DeRosso; grandchildren, Xavier, Jaxon, Xander, Grace, Annalyse, Jonathan, Jakob, Lillian and Allison; Mother, Celina Kopcio; Brother, Joseph (Debra) Kopcio; dear friends, Kenny (Julie) Dean, Mary (late Ray) Smith and Kenneth "Buzz" Marske. He is predeceased by his wife, Bonnie Kopcio (Berg); father, Joseph Kopcio; and brother, Bob Kopcio.
Services are private. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
