Geraldine M. Nelson

MACHESNEY PARK – Geraldine "Geri" Marie Nelson, age 81, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Tuesday March 5, 2019. Born in Fort Totten, ND on August 20,1937 to Daniel & Mary Ortley (Belgard). She was baptized into the Catholic faith on September 12, 1939, and attended St. Michael's Catholic Mission School in North Dakota. A former radio personality, she enjoyed doing Tarot Card readings & traveling. Geri loved cooking, spending time with the birds and flowers in her garden, and time with her children, grandchildren, clients and many friends. Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend; she will remain in our hearts forever.


She is survived by her children, James Nelson, Ed Nelson, Frank Bachmeier Jr., Brenda Bachmeier and Helen Martinez; grandchildren, Trever, Chantel and Breanna; great grandchildren, Cuamé, Amelia, Andie, Myles, Kaitlynn and Sophia; dear friend, David; and beloved dogs, Izzy, Mya and Gus-Gus. She is predeceased by her husband, William Nelson; siblings, Ruth Cavanaugh, Michael Johnson, Irene May Ortley, Rosella Hook, Selma Hill and Ramona Ricter; and her parents.

Funeral Services held Monday March 11, 2019 at 3:00 pm at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Ave. Rockford, with visitation from 1:00 pm until the time of services at 3:00 pm. Cremation rites accorded. Memorials to the family.
