Jane Elizabeth Hinkle

ROCKFORD - Jane Elizabeth Hinkle, age 79, passed away on Sunday June 4, 2023. Jane was the oldest child of Wilfred and Bonnie (LeVon) Hinkle, born in Dubuque, Iowa, April 28, 1944, while her father was overseas serving in WWII. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard. Jane is survived by siblings Ron (Carol), Jeffrey (Janis), Jerry (Michelle), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jane grew up on assorted farms in Illinois, loving animals. As a young adult, she raised and trained German Shepherds, achieving high competition levels for obedience training. All of her brothers have fond memories of Jane taking them to her area dog shows, often held in downtown Chicago. Quite the treat for a farm kid!

After high school, Jane attended Northern Illinois University and worked as a medical laboratory scientist at Swedish American. She loved her job and made lifelong friends.

Other cherished friends were a group of fellow dog owners she'd met at the local dog park, affectionately self-described as The Bow Wow Girls. They added so much joy to Jane's life!

Jane was fiercely independent, even after a debilitating stroke in her 30's took her livelihood and some physical capabilities. She lived on her own in Rockford, relearning to drive, and care for herself. Jane loved the Lord and her church, First Free Rockford, where she sang in the choir, participated in Stephen's Ministry and Bible Studies. Jane valued her faith and her church friends.

In early 2020, Jane experienced a health setback that necessitated her move to Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for additional care. She spent the last three years in that supportive community.

Jane enjoyed old westerns (due to the horses), Walt Disney (Donald, never Mickey), and had an encyclopedic knowledge of dog breeds. Jane is lovingly remembered by her brothers, family, and many friends, and is secure and renewed in the arms of her Savior.
