Joyce Kathryn Swanlund

ROCKFORD – Joyce Kathryn Swanlund, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday July 9, 2017. Born in Rockford on May 6, 1930 to H. Walter & Elaine D. Thorell (Anderson). Joyce loved her family deeply and was committed to being a great mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a faithful member of First Free Church of Rockford and gave back to her community thru her volunteer work as a church deaconess and a children's advocate for CASA.  Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, she will remain in our hearts forever.

She is survived by children, Lyn Van Beek, Sheri (John) Kraakevik, David Swanlund and Mark (Karin) Swanlund; grandchildren, Danika (Chris) Addy, J. Ross Van Beek, Allison Van Beek, Lauren (Todd) Schultz, Jenny Kraakevik, Daniel Kraakevik, Sam Swanlund, Max Swanlund and Tre Swanlund; great-grandchildren, Elise, Margot, Etta; sister-in-law, Nancy Thorell; and numerous nieces & nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Roger L. Swanlund; brother, Gordon Thorell; sister, Phyllis Thorell; and her parents.
