Juan Alberto Cruz Sr.

ROCKFORD – Juan Alberto "Johnny" Cruz Sr., age 74, of Rockford and formerly of Chicago passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday August 28, 2021. Born in Sabana Seca, Puerto Rico on February 10, 1947 to Angel Luis & Francisca Cruz (Hernandez). An avid Chicago Cubs & Bears fan, Johnny loved playing the odds at the horse track, stirring up mischief and tinkering around the house working on his yard and garden. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his boys. Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend; he will remain forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his son, Juan Alberto (Bridget) Cruz II; daughter, Melissa (Sebastiaan) Lopez-Mitchell; grandchildren, Juan III, Kristen & Kayley Cruz, Hunter & Hannah Burkel, Marcel Lopez, Adhara & Aiyanna Black and Micah Mitchell; great granddaughter, Genesis;siblings, Aida (James) Arnold, Maria (Francisco) Arguinzoni and Joanna (Francisco) Garcia; brother-in-law, Hector Alduen; sister-in-law, Andrea Cruz; numerous nieces & nephews; and beloved dogs, Remington & Maverick. He is predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Angelo Cruz, Mary Alduen and Migdalia Cruz; and nephew, Hector Alduen Jr.

Graveside Memorial Services held at a later date at Mary Hill Cemetery, Niles, Illinois. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
