Leslie William Copas

ROCKFORD – Leslie W. "Bill" Copas, age 71, of Rockford passed away peacefully Monday November 4, 2019. Born in Rockford on September 14, 1948 to Leslie & Phyllis Copas (Estes). A proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill owned & operated his fathers moving company – J & L Transfer for many years. He retired after 23 years of service from Freeport Tire and CBA Tire. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing & wood working, but most of all enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and dear friend; he will remain in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jean L. Copas (Esterbrook); children, Amy (Steve Wolfe) Pea and L. Aaron (Jacqui) Copas; grandchildren, Kyle Pea and Bryanna & Aydin Copas; siblings, Sally Carlson, Carol (late Chuck) Sutton, James (Sherry) Copas, Joan (Jay) Gorman and Rick (Eniara) Copas; brother & sister-in-law, Jerry Kruse and Donna Copas; numerous nieces & nephews; mother-in-law, Vivian Esterbrook; as well as many dear Esterbrook Family relatives; and beloved dog, Sadie. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Kruse; brother, Michael Copas; and his parents.

Celebration of Life Memorial held Monday November 11, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the VFW Post 9759 Loves Park, 2018 Windsor Rd., Loves Park, IL, with visiting from 1:00 PM until the time of services at 2:00 PM – reception to follow. Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the family for a Memorial to be established at a later date. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
