ROCKFORD – Lorraine Syverson, age 91, of Rockford, beloved mother, sister, aunt and friend to many; peacefully with family present went to be with our Lord in Heaven on the evening of May 11, 2023. Just 11 days shy of her 92nd birthday.

Born on May 22, 1931 to Elmer and Clara Carlson in Chicago. Here, her and five siblings were raised through high school. She was a graduate of Trinity University where she was active in various clubs, organizations and ministry teaching roles. During that time she also served as Secretary to the Dean of Men, and babysat the children of the President of the University. A service provided in which she was very proud of. She married Orville Syverson on June 11, 1955 and proceeded to become a devoted wife and loving mother to four boys. Later in life she continued her education obtaining her Masters degree at Rockford College and teaching in the Rockford School System. And even later yet, she worked at various drivers license facilities in the area. Lorraine throughout life enjoyed the outdoors and nature, camping, hiking and was a very good swimmer. She always took pride in the appearance of her home, whether it be the symmetry of wall hangings to the years of beautiful landscaping. She enjoyed reading ways in the promotion of good health. She became quite learned about the use of vitamins and supplements and shared her knowledge with others. There must have been something to it, you looked good!

Survivors include her four sons, Dr. Daniel (Anna) Syverson, Senator Dave (Lori) Syverson, Donald Syverson and Douglas (Lonna) Syverson; sister, Linda (Jack) Janigian; sister-in-law, Trudy Carlson; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents; sisters, Lois (Richard) Tuneburg, Lorretta (Bob) Hoskins, Leona (Tom) Zimmerman; and brother, Leonard Carlson.

She enjoyed going to church every Sunday and was a member of Lakeview Free Church in Chicago, then First Free Church and North Love Baptist both in Rockford. She prayed fervently and read her bible daily. She was a wonderful example to family and others of solid Christian living. Steadfast and Faithful. Never Wavering.

Services are Private. Interment at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, Rockford. Christenson Funeral home is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of your choice.
