Merietta Lavone Schelm

ROCKFORD – Merietta LaVone Schelm, age 68, of Rockford passed away peacefully Sunday October 17, 2021. Born in Rockford on February 10, 1953 to Marrion & Freda Moore (Johnson). Outgoing, kind and caring, Merrietta never met a stranger and loved finding new friends everywhere she went. A proud Pittsburgh Steelers fan, she enjoyed testing her luck on lotto tickets, watching her 23 News and connecting with friends & family on Facebook. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. Beloved mother, grandmother sister and dear friend; she will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her children, Bondena (late Milton) Phillips, Crystal Schelm and Kathleen Schelm; grandchildren, Camesha (Marquis), Deandre, Christopher, Karleshia, Shaniqua, Milton (Tristan), Eriana and Terry; a host of great grandchildren; brother, Russell (Karen) Moore; numerous nieces & nephews and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her husband, Jerry Schelm; brother, Curtis Moore; and her parents.

Celebration of Life Memorial held Saturday October 23, 2021 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the UW Health Sports Factory, 305 S Madison St, Rockford, IL 61104 . Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.
