Michael J. Nyre

ROCKFORD – Michael J. Nyre, age 82, of Rockford and formerly of Orfordville, WI passed away peacefully at home Friday, May 2, 2025. Born in River Falls, WI on November 28, 1942 to Joseph & Elda Nyre (Schultz). A proud Veteran of the US Navy and Tool & Die maker by trade, Michael loved fixing machinery and perfecting his woodworking skills. A great man, beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother and dear friend; he will remain forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Mary Jane A. Nyre (Meyers); children, Jerry (Jennifer) Gunn and James Gunn; grandson, Michael (Hannah) Gunn; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Llona Sailing; special nephews, Robert & Duane; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Delores Nyre and many dear friends, Rita & Jim. He is predeceased by his brother, Joe Nyre; sister-in-law, Joyce (Jerry) Johnson; and his parents.

Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors held Thursday June 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Durand Road, Durand, IL. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
