ROCKFORD – Mildred P. Ross "Millie", age 94, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Monday August 2, 2021. Born in Swifton, AR on April 24, 1927 to mother, Canada Moon. A true survivor, Millie overcame multiple losses and traumatic mental and physical abuse as a small child. She married the love of her life, Ernest "Ernie" Ross on his birthday May 4, 1945. They started on a double date with friends, which ended in 60 years of commitment. Together they built a family and moved to the Rockford area. They started small, worked hard and she filled night shifts at multiple diners, General Electric and JL Clark; where she proudly met then actor - Ronald Reagan, but had too much glue on her gloves to shake his hand! At the age of 46 she pursued her dream of becoming a hairstylist, she opened Mildred's Beauty Salon on 11 th Street and operated for 26 years. Strong, loving, kind and passionate are only a few words to describe Millie. She enjoyed cooking your favorite meal, and knew just how to make you feel at home. She truly loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her beloved pets, she will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Rainwater; grandchildren, Michelle (Jamey) Horsley, Tony Paolucci and Kerrie Ross; great grandchildren, Derek (Jasmyne) Paolucci, Presley Paolucci, Alex Carnell and Nathaniel Horsley; niece, Sheila Brown; special family member, Roger Rainwater. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ernest "Ernie" Ross; daughter, Ruth Ann Ross; sister, Mary (Leonard) Brown; and brother, Joe (Mary Ann) Gwaltney.

Graveside Services held Thursday August 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Kishwaukee Cemetery, 8137 Kishwaukee Road, Stillman Valley, Illinois. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arraignments. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
