ROSCOE, IL - Richard "Rich" McDonald, age 90, lifelong resident of Roscoe, IL passed peacefully at home after a very brief illness Thursday, July 31, 2025. Born in Rockford on November 8, 1934 to George and Pearl McDonald (Stouffer). After graduating from Hononegah High School, Rich worked with his parents and twin, Roger at McDonald's Shell Station. Drafted into the Army in 1957, he and twin, Roger served for two years as gunners in the 4th Armored Division, stationed mostly in Germany. Rich married Gloria (Selsor) in 1974, and adopted daughters; Lori, Rhonda and Denise. After retiring from the family business, Rich took a position at Youngberg Industries in Belvidere and thoroughly enjoyed his work and co-workers. Family and friends were everything to Rich. He also enjoyed good food, especially desserts, telling stories of his time in the service, jokes and comical sayings, reading, watching and feeding birds, making bird houses, feeding chipmunks by hand, walking his favorite dog, Lady through his neighborhood and playing cribbage. Beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. Rich was known for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared so freely. To know him was to know warmth, laughter and steady comfort. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Survived by Gloria McDonald; daughters, Lori (Rod) Singletary, Rhonda McDonald and Denise Jones; grandchildren, Travis (Shannon) Greenlee, Amanda Greenlee, Jonathan McDonald, Natalie (Andrix) Arguelles, Andrew Jones and Hailey Jones; great-grandchildren, Easton Greenlee, Beckett Greenlee and Oliver Arguelles; as well as nephews, Barry (Cathy) Bittrick, Brian Bittrick and Jeff McDonald; nieces, Jill (Pedro) Torres and Carla Bittrick; and numerous extended family. He is predeceased by his loving parents; twin sisters, Verna Bittrick and Virginia Gummow; twin, Roger; son-in-law, Shaun Greenlee; and nephew, Mark Bittrick.
Celebration of Life to be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Roscoe VFW, 11385 2nd St, Roscoe, IL 61073. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests you perform an act of kindness; be like Rich!
