Richard Michael Smulski

BATAVIA, IL – Richard Michael Smulski, age 86, of Batavia, IL and formerly of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2025. Born in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley & Tilly Smulski (Golec). Richard's parents immigrated from Poland to Wicker Park in Chicago. Rich graduated from Holy Trinity High School in Chicago, where he also married Anna Szaflarski on April 30, 1966. He and his brother Henry owned commercial real estate throughout their lives and were passionate about their work as landlords. Veteran of the US Army, devout Catholic and a regular at Sunday Mass, Rich loved his family very much and had a love for animals, often bringing home a newfound stray in need. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and dear friend; he will remain forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Anna M. Smulski (Szaflarski); son, Christopher (Jenna) Smulski; grandchildren, Cate & Braden; and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Stanley & Tilly Smulski; and brother, Henry (Rose) Smulski.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial held Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Cremation rites accorded. Memorials to the family.
