WINNEBAGO - Ronald “Ron” F. Atkins, age 80, of Winnebago, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Born in Dubuque, IA on January 30, 1946 to Floyd Sharron & Wilma Mae Atkins (Evans). Ron was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a man who brought laughter wherever he went and will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit and ability to crack a joke like a professional. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his laughter, his stories and the countless moments that made him uniquely Ron. He worked as a bus driver for the Peoria Rockford Bus Company for many years before retiring. He also had a passion for horses and enjoyed competing in horse show competitions. Ron enjoyed yard work, fishing, camping, watching NASCAR races, riding horses and spending time with his friends and the people he loved.

He is survived by his daughters, Ronda (Juan) Atkins and Kristi (Rosalino Ramirez) Villa; grandchildren, John Harvey, Joseph Harvey, Katelen Harvey, Reinaldo Villa, Aristoteles Morell and Ricardo Villa; 7 great-grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews; and beloved dachshund, Petey, who was a special part of his life. He is predeceased by his parents, Floyd & Wilma Atkins; and siblings, Lois Stinson, Mary Farrell and Jim Atkins.

Funeral Services to be held Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 11:30 am at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:30 am. Interment with Military Honors to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials to the family.

Ron will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. His quick wit, infectious humor, love of life and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be loved, always be missed and never be forgotten.
