Ruth J. Dickinson

ROSCOE – Ruth Josephine Dickinson (Gates), previously of Rockford, returned to her Heavenly Home on September 11, 2026. She was born in Cadott, WI, on April 23, 1928, to Earl Arthur and Ida Dela May Gates (Hodges). Ruth married Richard W. Dickinson on January 19, 1947. From this union three children were born: Richard (Bonnie) Dickinson Jr., Wendy (Gary) Holman Sr. and Barbara (Bill) Comstock.

Ruth had many interests and hobbies throughout her life. She served as scout leader for her children’s scout troops. Along with this, she enjoyed raising tropical fish, sewing, crocheting and reading. Ruth provided a Day Care service in her home for several years, touching the lives of many children along the way. From here her interest turned to creating beautiful pieces of plaster and ceramics. Many children and adults spent precious time with Ruth creating treasured works of art together and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Eventually, Ruth and Richard opened a store-front business, Ruth’s Ceramics. Many of her grandchildren have fond memories of working there. Ruth’s later years were spent at her daughter, Wendy’s home, surrounded by family, love and cherished memories. Kimberly and Mark, Ruth’s granddaughter and future grandson-in-law, made sure Ruth had her monthly outing to a casino. Win or lose, she enjoyed her time there and when she would win, she just gave it away to family.

Much of her day, Ruth would sit on the porch (weather permitting), enjoying nature and the many cats she cared for. Another pastime was watching old westerns on TV, her favorite being Gunsmoke.

Family was at the heart of Ruth’s life. She treasured her children and took great joy in watching her family grow through 5 generations. Her personal relationship with God gave her great strength and hope. Ruth had a deep faith with her favorite phrases being, “All things are possible with God” and “All things are in Divine Order.”

This was Ruth’s life and her family is her lasting legacy.

“Well done good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Wendy Holman and Barbara (Bill) Comstock; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Dickinson; bonus son, Bill Mondon; grandchildren; Mike Janssen, Kelly Janssen, Richard L. Dickinson, Ruth E.
