Susan Carol Hinton

ROCKFORD – Susan Carol Hinton, age 74, of Rockford passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born August 23, 1950 in Burlington, Iowa to Erwin & Donna Johnston (Walstrom). Susan graduated with her Associates of Arts from Rock Valley College in 1977. Crafting was a passion that turned into a tradition with her making bouquets and boutineers for the weddings of her children and grandchildren. Her attention to detail made each item so special. Susan loved her family dearly and made sure that each one knew how special they were to her. Reading brought Susan so much joy that she collected an extensive library of books to share with her family. You could always find Susan curled up with a book she was reading for possibly the second or third time. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend; she will remain forever in our hearts.

Susan leaves to cherish her memory her children, Robert Switzer III and Dietlind (Dale) Nord of Rockford, IL, Karla (Brian) Stringham of Schertz, TX, Leila (Bobby) Hodges of Odessa, TX, and Cija (Benjamin) Williams of Manor, TX; 9 grandchildren, Bobby Bush Jr., Vanity Switzer, Stefphany Davis, Matthew (Becky) Davis, Ameilia Davis, Elizabeth (Will) Luke, James Baucom III, Jocelynn (Tre'von) Haywood and Jonquell Evans; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Tina Ferreo and Jan Dombrosky; special friend, David Hinton; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Susan is preceded in death by her mother, Donna (August); father, Erwin; and life long friend, Joy Singleton.

Services are Private. Cremation rites accorded. Christenson Funeral home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials to the family.

Susan wished that we celebrate her life by doing the things that make us happy and so we shall!
