ROCKFORD - Tim "Skinny Sticks" Scott passed away on December 5, 2023, just shy of his 72nd birthday. Fittingly, he was in the presence of loved ones and music to comfort him on his journey. Born December 8, 1951 in Dekalb, IL to Rema Loretta "Rita" Herndon and Merle L. Scott, raised by Sylvia and Earl Morris, Tim lived the majority of his life in Rockford, IL. Tim acquired his most well known nickname, "Skinny Sticks" or "Skinny" for short, through his lifelong passion as a drummer in various jazz, blues, and rock bands throughout the local music community. With a personality and heart of gold, he was well known, well loved, and will be greatly missed by many.
Tim is survived by his daughters, Megan Scott and Stephanie (Brad) Towell; grandchildren, Gianna Gear, Ethan Gear, Isabella Towell, Evan (Rose) Scott; great grandson, Rhye Wilhite; sisters, Kay (Johnny) Tuminaro, Karen (Dan); brothers, Doug Smith (Jolanta), Vince Harr, Jamison (Tammy) Scott; nieces, Ronda (John) Marchica, Niki (Ryan) Gionson, Kim Holtapp, Kathy Buffington, Terri (Al) Kindermann, Michelle (Niral) Patel; nephews, Bart (Kelly) Buffington, Paul (Christina) Case, Scott Siegrist, Roy Heinz, Jamison Scott, Jr., Joseph Scott; and several beloved great nieces and nephews. In addition to the many friends and family that visited, checked in frequently, delivered special treats and meals, and shared stories to bring a smile, we would also like to acknowledge those who provided such kindness in their caregiving of Tim in his last, most challenging months.
Special thanks to Dr. Volety, UW Madison Neuro teams, Swedish American Hospital and 9th St. Rehabilitation Occupational and Physical Therapists, Personal Care Aid John Larsen, Staff and Administration at Maplecrest in Belvidere, and Debra, Danielle, Dana, Jen, Stephanie, Cindy from Northern Illinois Hospice. He was so moved by your efforts to make his days brighter and more comfortable. An extra special thank you to stepmother, Babette Rowe and Christine Towell for walking with us all so gently and lovingly to the very end. Your presence and support will be forever cherished.
