ROCKFORD – Victor Emilio Monroy, age 79, of Rockford passed away peacefully Wednesday November 23, 2022 at Amberwood Care Centre after a long battle with Parkinson's. Born in Santa Rosa, Ecuador on April 23, 1943. He attended University for one year, then served in the Ecuadorian Army. While working as a land surveyor for the government, he met Karen Joyce Demunn of Belvidere, IL. She was working as a Peace Corps worker in Ecuador. They were married April 22, 1967. They moved back to the United States to her parents farm. Victor learned English by watching TV & reading newspapers, especially the comics at first. He got a job at Chrysler and worked for over 30 years in the paint department. He became an American citizen in the early 80s. He enjoyed watching soccer & novellas, traveling, dining out, playing cards, dancing and betting on the horses. He enjoyed cooking at any hour, for anyone who showed up. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his entertaining storytelling.
He is missed by his daughter, Sandra; sons, Mark & Emilio; 2 granddaughters; and 2 grandsons. He is predeceased by wife, Karen in 1993; and his brothers .
Services are Private. Interment at Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, Illinois. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Activities Department at Amberwood Care Centre.
The family wishes a special Thank You the staff at Amberwood Care Centre for their excellent care & support. Amberwood was Home for Victor for 10 years, he was treated like family and kept comfortable by many of his caregivers.
