Wanda H. Hammarstrom

WAYNE – Wanda Harlowe Hammarstrom, age 85, of Wayne, IL and formerly of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully Friday April 30, 2021. Born in Waynesboro, Virginia on September 3, 1935 to Carl Vere & Madeline J. Harlowe (Harris). After graduating with a BA from Rockford College, Wanda went on to earn a Master's of Education from NIU and became a much-loved teacher in the Rockford Public School System. Wanda loved teaching and continued tutoring at-risk children after her retirement. A proud member of Zion Lutheran Church, she was a dedicated Lutheran. Wanda enjoyed rescuing and looking after her beloved cats, reading and her garden. She took a lively interest in the world around her and led a full meaningful life filled with generosity & kindness, she contributed so much to the world simply by being alive. Beloved mother, sister and dear friend, she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Steve) Hammarstrom-Craggs; 1 sister; and brother, Kevin Harlowe. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert C. Hammarstrom; and sisters, Vera Osborne and Carolyn McComb.

Celebration of Life Memorial held Saturday June 12, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3 ^rd Avenue, Rockford, with visitation from 12:30 pm until the time of services at 1:00 pm. Private interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford. Memorials to the family.
