Elizabeth "Betty" Baxter

MACHESNEY PARK – Elizabeth Muriel “Betty” Baxter, age 84, of Machesney Park and formerly of Holly Hill, FL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Saturday, June 6, 2026. Born in Hawesville, KY on June 12, 1941 to Robert E. & Zula E. Kellems (Coon). A talent in the kitchen, Betty loved cooking her favorite dishes for family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, sewing and crochet. Beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend; she will remain forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard Leigh Baxter; children, Brenda (Dale) Nalan, Wayne (Kendall) Baxter and Bill Baxter; grandchildren, Jeremy (Savannah) Palmer, Casey (Peter) Esquivas, Michael Baxter, Joshua (David) Baxter and Sadie Baxter; numerous cherished great grandchildren; sister, Frances Earline Johnson; sister-in-law, Clarene Moser; and numerous beloved friends. She is predeceased by her son, Dayne Baxter; granddaughter, Tonya Palmer; great grandson, Christopher Perez Palmer; brothers, James & Robert Kellems; parents, Robert & Zula Kellems; and beloved Shiatsu pup, Rags.

Graveside Services held Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:00 am at the New Milford Cemetery, 2685 New Milford School Road, Rockford, IL 61109. Christenson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project - support.woundedwarriorproject.org
